GATE 2011

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, also known as GATE, is conducted for admission to postgraduate and doctorate level programmes in various Engineering/Technology/Science/Pharmacy/Architecture institutes in India. GATE Exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, on behalf of the National Coordinating Board of GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) Government of India.
GATE 2011 will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, which is nominated as the ‘Organizing Institute’ for the test, for the year 2011. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted not only for admission in postgraduate courses, but also applicable for doctorate level courses in various branches of Science, with the approval of MHRD. GATE 2011 will be conducted for the courses given below:
 
Master of Technology (M.Tech)
Master of Architecture (M.Arch)
Master of Engineering (ME)
Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm)
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
 
GATE exam is generally conducted on the basis of a constitution of eight zones, which are given below:
IISc Bangalore (Zone-1)
IIT Bombay (Zone-2)
IIT Delhi (Zone-3)
IIT Guwahati (Zone-4)
IIT Kanpur (Zone-5)
IIT Kharagpur (Zone-6)
IIT Madras (Zone-7)
IIT Roorkee (Zone-8)
 
Any graduate, who has degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture, can appear for GATE 2011. Apart from that, the Master’s degree holders in any stream of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or its equivalent may also apply for the exam. Students appearing for final or pre-final year exams are also eligible to apply for GATE 2011. The students, who have qualification equivalent to BE/B Tech from professional societies recognized by UPSC or AICTE are also eligible to apply for GATE 2011.
 
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE Exam) 2011 will be conducted in two modes - online and offline. The online examination of GATE 2011 will be conducted on January 30, 2011 while the offline examination of the test will be conducted on February 13, 2011.
