CDS Exam Selection Procedure



Combined Defence Services Examination, popularly known as UPSC CDS Exam, is a competitive exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). UPSC conducts this examination for recruiting deserving, apt and fit candidates for defence services of India. Candidates wishing to join Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or Officers’ Training Academy are required to appear for the test. UPSC CDS Exam is one of the important criteria for selection in the defence services of the nation. The test assesses the test taker’s skills of becoming defence recruits. Qualifying the Combined Defence Services Examination does not guarantee one’s selection in any of the defence academies. But it is a step forward towards the further selection procedure.
 
Further selection procedure of UPSC CDS Exam, also known as Combined Defence Services Examination, includes interview for intelligence and personality test. This part of the selection procedure assesses the candidates' intelligence. Further, the qualified candidates will have to appear for Group Discussion (GD), Group Planning as well as Outdoor Group Tasks. Candidates are asked to give brief speeches on the topics given to them. The aforementioned tests are planned to evaluate the candidates’ mental caliber and knowledge about current affairs. In nutshell, final selection of the candidates will be made on the basis of merits obtained by them in UPSC CDS Exam followed by all the aforesaid tests/interview.
