Linguistics can be defined as the scientific study of languages. It is a systematic study of the nature, structure, phonetics, grammar (including syntax), semantics and morphology of a language. The connection of a language with mind, society and other languages is critically examined in linguistics. In order to build a career in the field of linguistics, a person should have proficiency in reading, writing as well as speaking the language, in which he/she is conducting the study. One can be employed in software companies, which write programs used for teaching a language. A degree/diploma in linguists can help in interpretation of rare dialects.
