Rheumatology is a branch of medical science that deals with the diagnosis, examination and medication of diseases concerned with the joints and the surrounding tissues. Rheumatologists cure the disorders related to joints, muscles, bones, and tendons. They also treat ailments, which can result in inflammation, pain, and swelling or any other situation in which immune system has been skewed. It is a job of a specialist, who at times, has to deal with severe cases. After diagnosing the health problem, a rheumatologist has to suggest various treatment options and medications such as steroids, non-inflammatory drugs, and antibiotics, to cure the ailment or disorder. Course Details
Numerous programs at degree/diploma level are conducted at under graduate as well as at post graduate level in the field of rheumatology in India. Minimum qualification for under graduate program is 10+2 in science stream and for post graduate program is bachelor’s degree in medicine (MBBS). Generally, specialization in this program is preferred after MBBS.

Rheumatologists can work in any government or private hospital that has rheumatology as one of its departments. Rheumatologists can expect a decent salary right from the beginning of their career. Earning between Rs. 2 lacs-3lacs per annum is expected for a beginner. With experience, one can charge more for consultation fee.
