IAS Exam is one of the competitive job entrance exams, which is conducted by the Union Public Service (UPSC). It is conducted for selecting and recruiting candidates as civil servants under the Government of India. The entrance test takes place at various test centers throughout the country. For being recruited as Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officials, candidates have to qualify two stages of written exam, which are preliminary exam and main exam. After qualifying both the exams, only selected candidates have to appear for personal interview according to the merit list prepared on the basis of candidate’s performance in main examination.
 
IAS exam is one of the toughest competitive job entrance exams in India, and to crack the exam, systematic preparation is needed. First of all, detailed reading of the chosen subject is needed. The specific areas on which one should concentrate are Indian National Movement, Indian Geography, Indian Economy, Indian Polity, Science & Technology, Personalities, Indian art & culture and Current Events.
 

Systematic revision would be another strategy in which one should do thorough revision of subjects and general studies. One can also opt to solve IAS exam sample papers and previous years’ question papers, as it gives a clear idea of what to expect in the exam. A formal preparation must start from the basic fundamentals, even if the candidate is a qualified postgraduate. One year regular reading of a good national daily, India Yearbook (Publication Division) relevant NCERT books and a good magazine for the purpose can prove to be really helpful for IAS preparation. Candidates are advised to keep a thorough check on all the happenings of the last one year, with critical evaluation of those which could be asked in the form of an essay, in IAS exam.
