Biotechnology is a recent development in the field of science and technology. Biotechnology as the name suggests is the combination of Biology and Technology and is an applied science. Course Details
There are several under-graduates courses like B.Sc., B.E. and B. Tech. and post-graduate courses like M.Sc, M. Tech in biotechnology available in India. For B.Sc., B.E. and B. Tech. courses minimum qualification is 10+2 with science. Selection into these courses is made through entrance exam conducted by the concerned universities. JEE is conducted by IITs for admission into B.E. and B.Tech. courses. There are separate entrance exams in national and state level. For Post-Graduates courses all sciences, engineering, technology and medicine graduates are eligible. The selection to these courses is also done through entrance exam conducted by the concerned institutions. At Post graduate level there are specialization in the field of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, Marine and Bio- Medicine. There are also advanced courses such PhD. and Post-Doctoral Research in Biotechnology.

Career Prospects
Multiple career options are waiting for biotechnology professionals. They can be employed in pharmaceutical companies, chemical, agriculture and allied industries. Research laboratories whether run by government or corporate sector are the preferred place for many bio-technologists. There they work as research scientists or assistants. There are also many employment opportunities for bio-technologists in government and private sector collages and universities. In private sector they many find employment in company such as pharmaceutical farms, food processing industries, aquaculture and agro based industries. Biotechnology is a highly remunerative career option. Biotechnologists employed in public sector industries and research institutes have pay packages according to the norms fixed by government. Bio tech degree holder of other institutions may get Rs. 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per month. Those employed in teaching have better pay packages which are even very lucrative in private collages and institutions.
