Loyola College Chennai

One of the top colleges in India, Loyola College is situated in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The college was established in July 1925. Currently, it is offering courses in various fields of study, right from arts, science and commerce to social sciences and natural sciences, at different degree levels. The college is affiliated to University of Madras. The undergraduate courses are divided into two shifts – Shift 1 wherein the government provides financial support and Shift 2, in which, students pay the full tuition fees. 

Loyola College is named after the ancestral castle, where St.Ignatius Loyola was born in the year 1941. The college has been an important part in the history of higher education in India. Right after its inception, the college began with first year BA Economics, History and B.Sc Mathematics. It obtained affiliation within the first three years of starting its function, which is a praise-worthy achievement in itself. B.Com course was added to the list of courses offered by Loyola College, in 1945.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate:
B.A. (Economics): Candidates should have passed 10+2 in commerce stream, with Economics, Accountancy, Mathematics /Business Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science as compulsory subjects of study.

B.Sc. (Chemistry): To pursue the course, one should have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized Board, with Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology / Microbiology / Computer Science as compulsory subjects of study.

B.Sc. (Mathematics): Candidates should have passed 10+2 from a recognized Board with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Computer Science as compulsory subjects, to be eligible for the program.

B.Sc. (Physics): Candidates should have studied Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology / Computer Science as compulsory subjects at the 10+2 level, to be eligible for the course.

Diploma:

Post Graduate:
M.A. (Economics): Candidates should be graduates in Economics from a recognized University.

M.A. (English): Candidates should be graduates in English from a recognized University.

M.A. (Social Work): Candidates should be graduates in any stream, from a recognized University. Moreover, they should have maintained good academic record and should be proficient in reading and writing Tamil language

M.Com: Those, who have done B.Com in Corporate or Bank Management, are eligible to apply.

M.Sc. (Bio Medical Instrumentation Science): Candidates should have done graduation in science, with Zoology / Adv. Zoology & Biotechnology/Plant biology & Biotechnology / Botany/ Life Science/ Medical Lab Technology/ Micro Biology /Bio Chemistry / Chemistry / Bio Physics as the area of specialization, from a recognized University.

M.Sc. (Chemistry): To be eligible for the course, the candidates should have done graduation with Chemistry and Mathematics as allied subjects, from a recognized University.

M.Sc. (Mathematics): To be eligible, the candidates should have done B.Sc (Mathematics) at the undergraduate level, from a recognized University.

M.Sc. (Physics): B.Sc (Physics) is required, to be eligible for pursuing higher studies in the subject.

M.Sc. (Statistics): Candidates should have done B.Sc (Statistics/Mathematics), to be eligible for the course.

M.Sc. (Zoology): Candidates should have done B.Sc (Zoology/Adv. Zoology & Biotechnology / Life Science), to pursue the post graduation course.

M.Sc. (Computer Science): Candidates should have done B.Sc. Computer Science, to be eligible for the course.

M.Sc. (Food Chemistry & Food Processing): B.Sc. Degree with Chemistry, Bio Chemistry, Nutrition Food Science Management & Dietics and Chemical Nutrition, Zoology / Botany, Plant Biology / Biotechnology with Chemistry at least at the allied level is a must, to be eligible for the program.

M.Sc. (Medical Lab Technology): In order to pursue the course, one should have done B.Sc. Zoology / Adv. Zoology & Biotechnology / Plant Biology &Biotechnology / Botany / Life Science / Medical Lab Technology /Micro Biology / Bio Chemistry / Chemistry / Physics / Bio Physics, from a recognized University.

MSc. (Medical Sociology): Any degree in Arts, Science and Commerce including BBM, BBA, MBBS, BPT., B. Pharm, BOT, B.Sc. Nursing,BDS, BIMS, B.SC. Agriculture is acceptable, for the course.

M.Sc. (Visual Communication): Candidates with B.Sc. Visual Communication degree are preferred. However, those who have done Media related degree like communication, Journalism or Design related degree like Fine Arts, Computer Science and others or have done Degree Plus based on aptitude test, are also eligible.

Doctorate:
Candidates should be post graduates in the relevant field, from a recognized University.
Admission Procedure:

Undergraduate:
Candidates are selected on the basis of their merit in the qualifying examination as well as their rank in the relevant entrance exams.

Post Graduate:
To admit students to MCA (Shift II) Computer Applications course, TANCET test score is considered. In addition to this, their marks in undergraduate course in the relevant field are also taken into consideration. For the rest of the courses, Candidates are selected on the basis of their merit in the qualifying examination as well as their rank in the relevant entrance exams.

Diploma:
For the diploma courses, candidates are selected on the basis of their marks in the qualifying examination.

Doctorate:
