Located in Dharamsala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Govt. College of Teacher Education is among the leading B. Ed institutions in the state. The institution, accredited with B-grade by NAAC, is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Northern Regional Committee Jaipur and is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla. The government co-educational institution started its first academic session in 1956 with the motive to cater the educational needs of pre-service teacher-trainees only. In 1962, NCERT New Delhi extended the purview of the educational centre and it started catering to the educational needs of in-service teachers as well. Govt. College of Teacher Education Dharamsala, in 1994, was upgraded as State College of Teacher Education by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi. Over the years, the co-educational college has made immense contribution in providing trained teachers to the state.
