Located in the suburban satellite township of Salt Lake City, Kolkata, the West Bengal University of Technology is a state technological university of West Bengal. The University is also popular by the name WBUT or WBUTech. An affiliating university, its educational jurisdiction extends across the entire state of West Bengal.
Educational Streams
WBUT offers a multitude of degrees ranging from Undergraduate courses to doctoral programs. Contemporary courses on subjects like Business Administration have been included in the curriculum.
West Bengal University of Technology has divided the academic year in two semesters: Autumn and Spring. An end semester examination is conducted at the conclusion of each semester.
The University has introduced need-based short term courses, planned to address the requirements of working people and advanced level students who wish to add value to their own specialized education. Admission process of the University is conducted through entrance exam followed by group discussion and interview. Eligible candidates are required to appear for prescribed admission test mentioned in the University prospectus (different admission tests for separate level courses) to secure admission.

Facilities
Library of the WBUT offers services such as online catalogue, access to E-Journals, print journals, Optical Media Server and alerts and RSS feeds. The library also facilitates standard reprographic facilities to the users that include network-based Laser Printing Service, photocopier and binding service and CD copying facility. The University organizes workshops from time to time for enhancing the technical know-how of the students.
History
On August 5, 2000, the West Bengal University of Technology or WBUTech came into existence by the West Bengal University of Technology Act 2000.
