Visvesvaraya Technological University

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), located at Belgaum in Karnataka, is among the largest technical universities in India. VTU Belgaum offers engineering and technology courses at various levels. Its educational jurisdiction is spread throughout Karnataka. VTU Belgaun is a member of the Association for Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
 
Educational Streams
All technical colleges in Karnataka function under the jurisdiction of Visvesvaraya Technological University. Along with conducting undergraduate and postgraduate technical courses, VTU also offers courses in Business Administration and Computer Application. The University has adopted a common curriculum for all the undergraduate courses so that common syllabus could be formed and uniform procedures could be adopted. The process of standardization of the subjects and syllabi of related branches has been made common upto the fourth semester.
 
A revised syllabus for all courses has also been introduced by it. VTU has made the curriculum flexible, so that any changes or revisions may be introduced particularly with respect to electives, as and when the technology changes or the need arises. It has collaborated with leading business organizations, which is helpful for training the faculty, conducting teachers training workshops, student projects and procuring software at a subsidized rate. Degrees awarded by Visvesvaraya Technological University are recognised by all the Universities worldwide.
 
Facilities
Visvesvaraya Technological University has a large library with books on technical, management and interdisciplinary subjects. Library provides latest Information to facilitate the students and researchers. The campus is backed with a fiber optic backbone, having about 1000 data access points, interconnecting all the buildings. Its campus is networked using state of art network tiered architecture. The network is developed to satisfy the computing demand of the students, provide e-learning environment, access to digital library, and to provide sufficient bandwidth for videoconferencing from any network access point.
 
History
Established on 1st April 1998, by the VTU Act 1994, Visvesvaraya Technological University has been named after Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. VTU is one of the largest technological universities in India. It has more than 200 departments across the affiliated colleges recognized as Research Centres.
