Situated at Pundibari, about 15 km away from Cooch Behar in West Bengal, Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya is an agricultural university. The state government of West Bengal came up with the idea of establishing a satellite campus of the State Agriculture University, to do justice to the agrarian nature of this part of WB, and the low agricultural productivity due to agro-ecological conditions. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has approved the university and extended developmental support.
Educational Streams
Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya has been promoting agricultural programs by offering a number of under graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Home Science and Fisheries Science. The University offers undergraduate courses in B. Sc Agriculture, Dairy Science, Forestry and Home science, postgraduate courses in M.Sc. Home Science, Agriculture and MBA in Agri-Business and doctoral programs in Ph. D in Agriculture, home science and veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry. The University has also got the credit of introducing a new technology faculty, by offering 4 years B.Tech degree in Agricultural Engineering approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi.
Facilities
UBKV has established a well-equipped central library in its campus that includes of huge volumes of agricultural and “Krishi Vidya” books, CDs and journals. At regular intervals from time to time, the Institute organizes seminars and workshops for the purpose of imparting knowledge on the elevated importance of technological usage in the agricultural fields, and the upcoming prospects.
History
The Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya was set up by West Bengal Act XX of 2000 and started commencing its functions from 1st February, 2001. The nearest railway station is New Cooch Behar, which lies on Kolkata and Guwahati train route. A new Technology faculty has come into being with due accreditation by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) from 2005-2006 academic session.
