Delhi University

University of Delhi, among the largest and most prestigious universities of the country, has a wide range of faculties and around 80 colleges spread all over the city. DU has been awarded recognition from UGC for outstanding academic work. It is an esteemed university of international repute and degrees awarded by it carry value worldwide.
 
Educational Streams
The university conducts programs in organizational pattern based on the multi-campus concept. Centres of Advanced Studies conduct teaching and research in their respective areas. A number of these and other university departments receive grants under the Special Assistance Programme of the UGC. University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) has a number of sophisticated research instruments. Fibre-optic networks have been implemented in the North and South campuses of the university.

Distance education offered by delhi university is also quite popular among students. Delhi University offers distance learning through Delhi University School of Open Learning (DUSOL).
Hostel and Facilities
University has several hostels which cater to the needs to its students. It has a Women's Hostel that accommodates full time post-graduate women students of the main campus of University of DelhiFull-time M.Phil., Ph.D. students are eligible for admission to this hostel. Other facilities include medical facilities, a Photostat Machine, canteen, tailor, PCO and washer women. Apart from regular college libraries, the University has several more well-cataloged libraries ensuring adequate academic support for its students.
 
History

Delhi University was established in the year 1922 with only three colleges affiliated to it, two faculties (Arts and Science) and about 750 students. It was established as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly. In 1933, the University offices and the Library were shifted to the Viceregal Lodge Estate. Today it is the nucleus of the university operations. Over the last several decades, the University has grown into one of the largest universities in the country. The University has its campuses across the city namely North, South, East and West Campus.
