SKUAST Kashmir

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, popularly known as SKUAST Kashmir, is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The university was named after Jenab Sheikh Mohammad, to pay a tribute to the great patriotic leader of Kashmir, who was popularly known as 'Sher-e-Kashmir'. SKUAST was established under an Act passed by the State Legislature. The university is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

 

Sher-e-KashmirUniversity of Agricultural Sciences and Technology offers a number of courses at bachelors, masters and at doctorate level in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and Sericulture. Courses conducted at bachelor’s level include B. Tech in Agriculture Engineering and B.Sc in Agriculture, Forestry, Sericulture, Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.Masters level of courses include M Scin Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Statistics, Sericulture and Fisheries.

 

Doctoral level course offered by Sher-e-KashmirUniversity of Agricultural Sciences and Technology includes Ph.D in the fields of Agriculture, Sericulture andVeterinary Sciences. The university functions on the Land Grant College concept of USA, following the Model Act of State Agricultural Universities, which was developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. SKUASTfollows course credit system of student’s education, in which the academic session is divided into two semesters. 

 

SKUASTprovides its students the facility of library, which is equipped with numerous books and journals that are required to enhance knowledge. Well equipped laboratories are also provided. Workshops are also conducted, to keep their students updated in their respective fields. University publications are published from time to time. Security facility is also provided to the students. Educational tours and field trainings are organized by SKUAST, to impart knowledge to students about different farming situations.

Sher-e-KashmirUniversity of Agricultural Sciences & Technology was established in the year 1982. At the outset of the university, it had its sphere of authority intact over Jammu & Kashmir, with it’s headquarter at Shalimar in Srinagar. In the year 1998-99, amendment was done in the SKUAST Act 1982 and the authority of the university was confined to the territory of Kashmir. Consequently, a separate Jammu division was established.
