Nalanda Open University

Nalanda Open University is the only University in the State of Bihar meant for imparting education exclusively through the system of distance learning. Nalanda Open University was founded in 1987 by an ordinance of the Government of Bihar. The University is named after the famous Nalanda University of Ancient India. The University is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), and University Grants Commission (UGC).

 

Nalanda Open University provides educational opportunities to those who are unable to take up formal education and are still desirous to upgrade their educational qualifications and acquire knowledge in various fields of learning. It conducts Certificate/ Intermediate/ Graduate and Master Degree courses in diverse fields. 

Flexibility in matters of eligibility for enrolment for higher education, age of entry, choice of course, methods of learning, conduct of examination and operation of programmes make the university favorable among the learners. The courses have been developed to instill rural, agricultural, industrial and commercial skills in the people. Study material is designed for improving socio-economic condition of the masses.

NOU Patna is currently functioning from its well equipped camp office at Patna. The campus houses an examination centre for the students. The library has more than 30,000 books on different subjects. A computer center with internet access is also available here. Special facilities are offered to elderly people, in-service personnel, housewives, people living in remote areas, and socially disadvantaged people of the society.

 

Nalanda Open University came into being in 1987 with the Ordinance of Government of Bihar. Later, the university Act 1995 was passed by Bihar Legislature. The University has been named after the famous Nalanda University of Ancient India.
