Mother Teresa Women’s University

Located at Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, Mother Teresa Women's University is a public university exclusively devoted to women's. It has earned a distinct place in the higher education system for women. The university has been awarded with B++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

 

The courses offered by Mother Teresa Women's University can be broadly classified into undergraduate, postgraduate, M Phil, PhD and postgraduate diploma. At postgraduate level, the courses offered are Computer Science, Economics, Education, English, Historical Studies, Tamil, Sociology, Family Life Management, Women's Studies. Postgraduate Diploma (one year) is conducted in Computer Applications, Mass Communication, Translation, Gerontological Studies, Herbal Medicine, and Human Rights.

 

The University has established a Center for Women’s Studies that conducts several specialized courses for women. The Centre also undertakes a range of research work that has practical orientation and is high in utility value. Women, particularly from the rural sectors, are imparted training in several job-oriented subjects. These courses prove to be quite beneficial for women by helping them become economically independent.

 

Mother Teresa Women's University offers facilities like library, internet access, laboratories, hostels etc. Other facilities provided by the university are reference service, reprography service, INFLIBNET - connectivity, abstracting service and documentation service. The University library has a rare collection of books, reports and journals on various subjects related to women.

 

Established in 1984, Mother Teresa Women's University was founded by the enactment of Tamil Nadu Act 15. It has been given the responsibility of monitoring, offering consultancy services and research in the areas of Women's Studies.
