Mahatma Gandhi University

Mahatma Gandhi University, also known as MG University, was established in 1983 at Kottayam, Kerala. It has been accredited with B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) . The university has more than 180 affiliated colleges spread over five districts in Central Kerala. 

Mahatma Gandhi University is a member of the All India Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).  It has a sprawling 110 acre main campus in Athirampuzha, on the outskirts of Kottayam town. It has satellite campuses at Pullarikunnu, Soorya Kalady Hills, Nattasserry, Puthuppally, Gandhinagar and Cheruvandoor in Kottayam, Thodupuzha in Idukki District and Chuttippara in Pathanamthitta District.
 
Educational Streams
MG University Kottayam offers UG, PG and doctorate level courses in various disciplines. Number of courses conducted by the university is more than 400. University follows credit and semester system. It has tied up with several national and international institutions of repute, and taken up research projects. School of Chemical Sciences has developed several new technologies indigenously, earning it several US and Indian patents. 

The University offers research facilities and guidance in more than 40 disciplines through its own departments and research centres. The University has several self-financing institutions offering engineering, applied sciences, nursing and allied medical courses. 

Career-oriented programs at the university help the students get good jobs post their education. Kottayam Literacy Campaign, the first of its kind in India (1989 ) was a project of MG University. Nalpathimala Grama Vikas Kendra, located within the University Campus, has evolved as a nationally accepted model for campus-community partnership. Vocational Rehabilitation Centre is also one of its instruments to reach the masses.
 
Facilities
There is a central library as well as more than 30 departmental libraries. The fully automated central library is also a member of the DELNET (New Delhi). Students are encouraged to participate in inter university youth festivals, sports, and programs of intellectual pursuits. A separate Students Service Department looks into the student amenities. The Employment and Guidance Bureau assists the students to prepare for the UGC, NET, CSIR and other competitive Examinations.
 
History
Established in 1983, Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam has played significant role in imparting education in the state of Kerala. The university enrolls thousands of students every year to its graduate, post graduate and doctorate programmes.
