Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya (MGCGV), an esteemed centre of higher learning in the state of Madhya Pradesh, exists with its main objectives to provide education and dissemination of appropriate technology in the field of higher education. The university, which was established in 1991, has played significant role in the field of rural development through higher education and also in preparing innovative models of rural development. It presents a new vision with a judicious blend of Indian culture and modernity for sustainable rural development.
 
Educational Streams
The University offers multidisciplinary higher education courses up to doctoral level in the disciplines of agriculture and animal sciences, applied sciences, environment, GIS and remote sensing, agricultural engineering, food technology, information technology, management, education, languages, communication, fine arts, humanities and social sciences. The university also conducts distance education courses. It facilitates its learners by giving opportunity to join on and off campus courses. There is a provision of reservation for the candidates of Madhya Pradesh.  
 
Facilities
The university has provided needed basic facilities and accoutrements to its learners. Separate hostels are offered to both girl and boy students. Agricultural Research Farm, Library, Laboratories, Workshops, Computer center, Transport and Canteen are under the listing of facilities. Training and Placement Cell is also available.
 
History
Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya University’s activities turn round rural development. It was established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh through legislature by an Act in 1991. For more than a decade, the university has emphasized in dimensions of rural development through its education, research and extension activities. So far, the University has created human resource, developed appropriate technology, conducted research and extension in sustainable agricultural techniques for rural livelihood and proper management of rural resources. And it also imparts mass education for the empowerment and awareness of the rural population including women.
