Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Science University is a State University. It is located in Seminary Mountain area of Nagpur city. The University has been formed out of the amalgamation of four Agricultural Universities in Maharashtra. The institutes recognized by the university are Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur, College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Sciences, University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Parbhani, and Bombay Veterinary College.
Educational Streams
Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Science University or MAFSU offers diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate degree courses and Ph.D programs in veterinary science and animal husbandry through several colleges/institutions established under the educational banner of the University. It offers diploma program in veterinary science and animal husbandry, which is of 3 years duration. Candidates who have passed 12th standard in science stream can apply for this diploma course. The degree course of 3 to 4 years duration is called Bachelor in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc).
Candidates who have cleared 12th standard examination in science stream and also state entrance test set by the government are eligible for admission. The University offers Master’s degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (M.V. Sc), which is of two years duration and allows admission to the students with B V Sc degree from here or any other recognized university. Ph D is offered in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry is offered to candidates who have done Masters in the same.
History
MAFSU was formally declared as a University through a notification issued on 17th November 2000 under the State Act No. 1998 on 3rd December 2000. The university is amongst the pioneer organizations related to Veterinary Research and Extension in Central India. Several Veterinary colleges, a postgraduate Institute, a dairy technology college, and a diploma institute have been brought under MAFSU’s affiliation.
