Kerala Agricultural University

Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) was established in 1971 by an Act of the State Legislature of Kerala. Jurisdiction of the university is in Wayanad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod, Malappuram and Ernakulam districts of Kerala. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is widely regarded among the best agricultural universities in India.
 
Educational Streams
KAU Thrissur conducts Graduate, Post Graduate and PhD programs in Agriculture and Allied Sciences. It conducts Masters degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agricultural Statistics, Cooperation and Banking, Home Science (Food and Nutrition), Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Fisheries and Agricultural Engineering and Technology. It has played a role in providing training in scientific experimentation through its programmes to the locals. Extension education activity of the University is implemented through the Communication Centre, Farm Advisory Service, Central Training Institute, Advanced Centre of Training in Plantation Crops, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Village Adoption Programme. The university is known for providing high quality professional education.
 
Admissions to undergraduate courses of the university are held on the basis of the ranks obtained in the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the Commissionarate of Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala. For the PG courses, selections are made by the committee constituted by the University for the purpose on the basis of written test and interview. PhD admissions are on the basis of interview.
 
Facilities
Separate hostels are available for girls and boys. The Computer Center helps the students to use Information Technology to learn the skills of agriculture. The Central Library has sufficient number of books to assist the students. The university also manages facilities like Guest house, Auditorium, and Indoor stadium. NCC/NSS aid the students in their overall personality development.
 
History
Kerala State Assembly established Kerala Agricultural University in the year 2001, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research adjudged the Kerala Agricultural University as the best performing University among the thirty five State Agricultural Universities and deemed Universities in the country.
