Located at the foot hills of the Western Ghats in a rural setting of Virudhunagar district, Kalasalingam University offers engineering and technology courses at various educational levels. The University was founded to accomplish the objective of youth empowerment through education and technology. It is also the first university of the country to offer B Tech courses for people of speech and hearing impaired.

Kalasalingam University presently offers 9 undergraduate and 17 postgraduate courses in engineering alone. Undergraduate engineering degree courses offered by the University includes Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology.
PG programs at Kalasalingam University are conducted in Automotive Systems Engineering, Biotechnology, CAD / CAM, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Applications, Control and Instrumentation Engineering, Digital Communication and Network Engineering, Embedded systems technology, Energy engineering, Environmental engineering, Information Assurance and Security, Information Technology, Network engineering, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Power systems engineering, VLSI designs.
In addition to the UG and PG programs the university offers MSc in Applied Mathematics, Computer Technology, Medical Physics; MCA and MBA (specialization in Marketing, Finance, Retail Marketing, Banking and Insurance, HR management and Systems). Research programs leading to PhD are available in all the disciplines. Part time courses are also available for working professionals.

History
Kalasalingam University was originally known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering or AKCE, started by Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities, in the year 1984. On 20th October 2006, it was granted the status of a University under section 3 of UGC act 1956, by a notification issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi.
