Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya

Located on the banks of holy river Ganges in Hardwar, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya is a deemed university that conducts educational programmes on Sanskrit, Vedic literature, Yoga along with modern sciences and technological subjects. The Vishwavidyalaya is a registered autonomous institute and the degrees conferred by Vishwavidyalaya are recognized by GOI/UGC. It is enlisted among members of Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. The University has been awarded with Four Star Status by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC).
 
Educational streams
Apart from the regular Arts, Science and Business Management courses the Vishwavidyalaya also give stress on Vedic and Sanskrit literature and philosophy. Research facilities lead to degree of PhD in areas like Vedic literature, Sanskrit literature, Philosophy, Hindi, English, Psychology, Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Computer Sciences and Management Studies. The Archaeological department of the Vishwavidyalaya has conducted survey of several sites of historical importance such as Garhi Shyampur, Kundi Sota, Pandu Shrota, Imli Khera, Sultanpur, Azmeripur, Puranpur etc.
 
Facilities
Apart from other basic facilities the Vishwavidyalaya has also established NCC, NSS, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association. Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya has a central library with a huge collection base of more than 1,35,000 books. The Vishwavidyalayahas a museum that was created to promote teaching and research in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology which is also acting as a postgraduate and Research department.
 
History
Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya was established on March 4, 1902 by Swami Shraddhanandaj. In the year 1922 a second campus of women's education was established in Dehradun by Acharya Ramdevji. In 1933, Kanya Gurukul Mahavidyalaya was established in Haridwar as a PG Institute for girls. Further in the 2002 the Vishwavidyalaya was granted the status of an autonomous body by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
