The GB Pant University is recognised as a landmark in the history of agricultural universities in the India. It laid a perfect example of partnership between India and the United States. The setting up of the university brought a revolutionary change in the field of agricultural education, research and extension. The main campus is located in Udham Singh Nagar taking care of the entire Uttaranchal representing plains, Tarai, Bhabar and hill areas
 
Educational Streams
GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology is known for its disciplines in the fields of Horticulture and related Agricultural departments. The University has also started a programme called Liberal Education, which includes courses on Cultural Heritage of India, Yoga, Philosophy, Practical Psychology, Global Ecology, Population Studies, etc. These programmes have been started to enhance the development of character and personality of the students besides making them aware of the rich cultural heritage and social problems.
 
Facilities
There are approximately 22 hostels including seven hostels for female students and one for married students with separate arrangements for post-graduate and undergraduate students. All the students of the University are required to stay in the hostels. Basic amenities like a common room, internet, music room, indoor games room and a library, courts for Volley Ball and other outdoor games have been provided at most of the hostels.
 
A full fledged University hospital is there to provide round the clock medical service to the students and staff members. The Student Welfare activities scheme takes care of activities related to professional societies, Liberal Education, Physical Education, NSS and NCC. The University Library provides quality services to the students, teachers and research scholars, supporting teaching research and extension programmes of the university.
 
History
GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology was established in 1960 as the first agricultural university of India by the first Prime Minister of India Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. Later, in 1972, the University was rechristened as Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology to honor the contributions of Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, the then Chief Minister of UP.
