Cochin University of Science and Technology

Cochin University of Science & Technology, also known as CUSAT, is an autonomous government university located in Cochin, Kerala. The university awards degrees at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral Level in several fields of engineering and allied subjects. CUSAT as an institution is poised to be upgraded to become Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Kochi (IIEST Kochi) that would make it stand among the elite group of institutes of national importance.
Educational Streams
CUSAT lays emphasis on the development of higher education in the field of applied science, technology, industry and commerce, particularly in post-graduate studies and research. CUSAT has been selected as a centre for Excellence in the field of Lasers and Opto-electronic sciences by UGC. The University has established centers for Interdisciplinary Studies, Microprocessor Research, National Manpower Information, Rural Development & Appropriate Technology, Ocean Electronics Science in Society, Information Resource Management, Neuro Science, Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, Population Studies, Aquatic Animal Health, Monsoon Studies, Economic Policy and Analysis & Adult and Extension education. CUSAT has also established academic collaborations and exchange programmes with many notable institutions across the USA, Europe, Russia, Japan, France, Korea etc.
Apart from other basic facilities, the University has provided hostel accommodation for Undergraduate/ Postgraduate / Research students. CUSAT has a well defined library and a digital library to its credit that acts as a central agency for meeting the information requirements of the department. The library has got a rich collection of the valuable books, doctoral, back volumes of periodicals, technical reports, conference, proceedings and patents.

CUSAT was established in 1971 to fulfill the commitment of the Government of Kerala towards the new scientific policy resolution. Formerly known as University of Cochin, it was reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in 1986. In the year 1996-97 CUSAT became international and started admitting foreign student and faculty exchanges. The University is still in the process of strengthening contacts and collaborative tie-ups with international universities and institutions.
