Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), is one of Asia's major agricultural universities, situated at Hisar in Haryana. It is affiliated to the University Grant Commission, UGC, Government of India. The university is a leading player in agricultural research in India and contributes significantly to Green Revolution and White Revolution in India. HAU is the first institution of higher learning to create a separate college for sports in India.
 
Educational Streams
The university offers Undergraduate, B Sc (Hons) / B Tech / B V Sc & AH and Postgraduate programs, M Sc, MBA, M Tech and M V Science in most of its faculty departments. Doctoral program is also offered in several departments. The programs have been structured on the professional way seeing the need of the time and its people. Admission to the undergraduate programs is held (except B Sc Home Science) through a Common Entrance Test. The university publishes the largest number of research papers among agricultural universities in India. The university has an extensive system of research facilities spread throughout the state of Haryana.
 
Facilities
The university keeps up its library that is called Nehru Library comprising a huge collection of books and 700 journals. Indira Gandhi Auditorium, a modern facility acting as students' activity and welfare center, badminton courts, squash courts, a synthetic track, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a large indoor gymnasium have been managed by the university. Campus Hospital is available for the university community. Shopping Centre with grocery shops, banks, post office and book stores are the common facilities at the university. The Counselling and Placement Centre is open with multifaceted development of the Students.
 
History
CCSHAU was previously known as Hisar Agricultural University (HAU), Haryana. It was given its present name after Chaudhary Charan Singh, a former Prime Minister of India. After the birth of Haryana in 1966, it became an autonomous institution in 1970 through a Presidential Ordinance, later ratified as Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act, 1970, passed by the Lok Sabha in 1970. HAU has developed several varieties of wheat, rice, millets, forage crops, cash crops like sugarcane, cotton and oilseeds, vegetables and medicinal plants.
