West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences

Established on 2nd January, 1995, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences was started with the aim of promoting education, training and conducting research in veterinary, animal, dairy and fishery sciences. It caters to the needs of the farming community in the State of West Bengal.

 

The university conducts Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral courses in variety of agriculture related disciplines. The University has been undertaking various need based research programs to solve the regional problems for enhancing livestock and fish production in the state. The Directorates of Research, Extension and Farms of the University are responsible for organizing the research, extension and farm activities. It has also established a rural extension center and district extension center that organizes extension programmes for research in adaptable technologies.

 

The University accepts admission of applicants for its Dairy Technology courses through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). For taking admission at the University students need to keep a watch over the national newspapers in the month of July and August especially for the undergraduate courses. For admission to the post graduate courses the months of October and November are important. Admissions are conducted on the merit basis performance of the students in the entrance test and the qualifying examination. The reservation policy exists for different reserved categories like SC, ST and OBC as per the norms of the Government of India.

 

The university provides hostel facility for accommodating the students from outside the city. Students can participate in indoor and outdoor sports activities. The University has also facilitated a central library which is well-equipped with all modern facilities and resources in the form of books, print journals (National and international), online journals, CD-ROMs, standards, theses, reports etc. The placement cell at the University takes care of campus placements of the graduate and post-graduate students.

Established in the year 1955, on the 2nd of January, through West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences Act-VI the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences has been serving the country by promoting education and research programs in the field of agriculture.
