Vikram University, a public university in Ujjain, has been christened after King Vikramaditya, a great legendary ruler. Established in 1956, it is a state university and a member of The Association of Indian Universities, AIU. It has been recognized by the University Grant Commission, UGC, and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded ‘A’ Grade to the university. Jurisdiction of the University extends over the districts of Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Shajapur and Dewas. It has more than 80 affiliated colleges and two constituent colleges spread over these districts.
The university promotes traditional as well as modern professional streams. Teaching and research move together, while language and literature are given due importance. Industry interaction is promoted along with student-staff interaction. Along with regular courses, part time courses are also offered keeping in mind the needs of various sections. Presently, the University offers education in Arts, Social Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Education, Management, Information Technology, Commerce, Law, Medicine and Ayurveda, and maintains its own Schools of Studies in several domains. Apart from affiliated and constituent colleges, the university also runs four special centers including Indira Gandhi National Open University Study Center, Coaching Centre for Competitive Exams for backward classes, Scindia Oriental Research Institute and Dr. Ambedkar Research Chair.
The campus of the University has Computer Centre, Science & Instrumentation Centre, Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Library, University Press, Guest House, Health Centers, Bank, and Post Office etc. Hostels with proper amenities are available for the students.
Vikram University was established in Ujjain in 1957. The foundation stone of Vikram University was laid by the then Home Minister of India Shri Govind Vallabh Pant in 1956. Today, the university has progressed as one of the leading higher education centers in the state.
