Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, located in Delhi, is a deemed to be University offering higher education at the national level. Prime objective of the University is to provide facilities for the study of such languages and literature of Asia that have a bearing on Sanskrit studies viz. Pali, Iranian, Tibetan, Mongolian, Chinese, Japanese etc.
Educational Streams
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth has established four faculties that offer courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level. The first three faculties of the University (mentioned under Faculties/Departments) provide study and teaching facilities for a degree course of three-year duration viz. Shastri, Shastri (Hons) and the two-year course of Acharya in different disciplines of Sanskrit studies. Teaching facility for completion of one year teacher- training course called Shiksha Shastri and one year course for advanced study in Shiksha Shastra called Shikshacharya is provided by the faculty of Adhunika Gyan Vigyan. All the four faculties of the Vidyapeeth provide research facilities for the research scholars who are keen on pursuing the research work in different branches of Sanskrit learning.
Apart from these faculties, the Vidyapeeth has also developed an independent department of Research & Publication that brings out the writings of many reputed scholars of the country. It has been organizing vocational courses in Sanskrit, Hindi and Computer Application along with Shastri courses of study. Besides all this, the Vidyapeetha organizes several certificate courses as well.
Facilities
The University provides fooding and lodging facility to the regular students of the Vidyapeeth hailing from other states of the country and from abroad. The University library is housed in a spacious building accommodating a vast collection of books on various subjects of learning and journals. There is a guest house catering to the accommodation needs of national and international delegates/members visiting the university for academic and research activities. A Yajnashala has also been constructed in the Vidyapeetha where diploma and training courses for the seekers are organized.
History
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha was granted the status of a deemed to be University in November 1987. The university has evolved out of an institute namely the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrit Sahitya Sammelan established on the 8th of October 1962.
