Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology is an autonomous body, fully funded by Government of India and controlled by SLIET Society. Registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860, the institute awards its own Certificates and Diplomas approved and recognized by All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, New Delhi. The institute was previously affiliated to Punjab Technical University. However, it was later accorded the status of Deemed University.
Educational Streams
The university offers modular pattern of education in various branches of Engineering & Technology. The study programs include a range of courses of Certificate, Diploma, Degree, M Tech. & Ph D levels. There is a provision for Certificate students to upgrade themselves to Diploma and Diploma student to Degree Program. The institute was conceptualised to cater to then existing three-tier system to modern industry, which incorporates workers, technicians and engineers. Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar. PhD programs have also been started in collaboration with PTU and other neighboring Universities.
Facilities
Seeing the need of learners and faculty, the university presents Central Library with ample books and magazines on Science and Technology, Workshops for each department, Separate hostels for girls and boys, Health Center with primary medical facility, Shopping Complex and Guest House to its learners and faculty members.
History
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET) was established by Government of India through Ministry of Human Resource Development as a national level institute. In the year of 2007, it was entitled as a deemed university.
