North Bengal University

University of North Bengal is a state university situated near Darjeeling in West Bengal. The University was started to reach the goal of disseminating knowledge to fulfill growing socio-economic and technical manpower needs in the districts of North Bengal. The territorial jurisdiction of the university extends to the districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Students come across all the regions of North Bengal, rest of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and also from SAARC nations like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

 

North Bengal University offer seducation in Undergraduate, Post graduate, M. Phil and Doctorate programs. After completing post graduation level interested students can also go for higher studies like M. Phil and Ph. D programs at the University. Students are admitted exclusively on the basis of merit list. Admissions under the under graduate and post graduate level are done on the basis of marks obtained by students in their 10+2 and 10+2+3 examinations. For securing admission in the research level programs offered by the University, applicants need to sit for a qualifying examination, followed by an interview.

 

University of North Bengal has established separate hostels for boys and girls. Guest house accommodation is also available on payment basis for the guests. The health centre offers free medical treatment and pathological facility with nominal charges. The Library of the University facilities research and higher learning by providing books, journals, e-journals, newspapers and other documents to the teachers, research scholars and students. NBU has also established a museum which has a rich repository of collection in sculpture, coins, paintings, manuscripts etc. depicting the history and heritage of North Bengal.

 

In 1962, the University of North Bengal was established by an Act of the Legislature of West Bengal.
