Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics

Established in 1930, the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune is one of the oldest institutions in the field of Economics education and research in India. It got the status of a deemed university in 1993. Primarily conceived as a research center, it has acquired the status of a reputed institution in Economics. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited with A+ Grade.

 

The university conducts postgraduate as well as PhD programs in Economics and related disciplines. The students are inducted in the First Year of MA on the basis of an entrance test comprising analytical ability, elementary economics and

aptitude for statistics and mathematics. Learners from varied academic backgrounds are allowed to go for the course. Doctorate is offered in Economics, Population studies and Sociology. The students can also got for a Certificate course in Computers for Economic Analysis.

 

In order to fulfill the academic needs of its pupils, GIPE maintains a library of the collection of thousands of books on Economics, Politics and Social Science. The library of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics has one of the largest and most valuable collections of social science documents in India. Hostel facility is also offered to outstation students. Extra curricular activities are regularly held to promote all round development of the students.

Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics was established in 1930. In 1949, GIPE became a constituent recognized institution of the University of Poona. In 1962, appreciating its role to research in agricultural economics, the University Grants Commission (UGC) selected the Institute as a Centre of Advanced Study in Agricultural Economics. After two years, UGC declared GIPE as a Centre of Advanced Study in Economics. In 1993, the Government of India declared GIPE as Deemed to be a University.
