Adikavi Nannaya University, located in Rajahmundry District of Andhra Pradesh was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh under an Act passed by the state legislature 2006. The formation of this University was a valuable addition to the existing Universities in Andhra Pradesh. It takes care of the educational needs of both the Godavari Districts and is in the process of affiliating all the post-graduate and degree colleges in these districts under its banner.
Educational Streams
Adikavi Nannaya University started functioning in the year 2006, with a program in Geo-informatics that was the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. Presently, it offers post-graduate courses in several disciplines, relevant to the demands of the existing employment scenario. Courses offered by the University include M A (English, Psychology and Social Work) and MSc (Chemistry, Geoinformatics and Zoology). Professional courses like Business Administration, Computer Application, English Studies, and Tourism and Hospitality Management are also offered here. The University also offers 5-year integrated course with areas of specialization in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Economics, Mathematics and Computing and Petroleum Exploration.
For admission into the courses conducted by the University, Adikavi Nannaya University Common Entrance Test (AKNUCET) is conducted every year. Applicants who have passed their annual qualifying examination or awaiting results are eligible for appearing in the test.
Facilities
The University campus houses a spacious library having all kinds of books and a computer centre with modern amenities for the students. A sports club and health centre is also available within the University premises. Besides the academic activities the university also promotes extracurricular activities and encourages students to participate in various sports and games events. The University has established independent hostel facility for boys whereas for girls accommodation is arranged in agreement with a neighboring Women’s College on the basis of availability.
History
Established in March 2006, Adikavi Nannaya University was formed through an Act No. 28 of 2006, passed by the legislative assembly of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It has been named after Adikavi of Telugu literature Nannayabhatta, the eleventh century poet laureate, who initiated a freeway authentic translation of the great epic Mahabharata from Sanskrit to Telugu.
