AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences)
AIIMS runs a number of undergraduate courses in medicine, nursing and related areas, and postgraduate courses in virtually all the basic and clinical medical specialities and superspecialites. A total of 42 disciplines are taught at AIIMS. Admissions to all the courses are made on the basis of entrance examinations conducted all over the country. Undergraduate Courses at AIIMS: MBBS: Every year 50 students are admitted to the MBBS course of AIIMS. The course duration is 5 ½ years (including internship). The MBBS curriculum at AIIMS is a harmonious blend of several streams of competing, and sometimes conflicting, endeavours. It extends beyond medicine, and also includes science and psychology. B.Sc (Hons.) Human Biology: AIIMS is the only institution in India conducting a B Sc (Hons) course in Human Biology. The course prepares students for research in emerging fields like biotechnology and molecular biology. B.Sc. courses in Nursing, Audiometry, Ophthalmic, Techniques and Radiography: These undergraduate courses are designed to produce well-qualified personnels for comprehensive health care team. Postgraduate Courses at AIIMS: AIIMS conducts MD, MS & MDS courses. Presently, AIIMS conducts postgraduate courses in 55 different specialties. DM & MCh: AIIMS offers superspeciality courses in following medical and surgical disciplines (DM and MCh respectively): Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Medical Oncology. Master's degree in science (M Sc): AIIMS offers 2-year M Sc course in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmacology or drugs Assay. Master's degree in Biotechnology (M Biotech): This is a 2-year course, designed to produce a cadre of scientists required for highly specialized areas such as vaccine production. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D): AIIMS conducts Ph D courses which may take up to 5 years. |
