AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) Pune is one of the premier medical colleges in India. AFMC was set up in 1948 on the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee.

Armed Forces Medical College performs multiple roles. These include training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates, nursing cadets and paramedical staff; providing the entire pool of specialists and super specialists to Armed Forces; providing high quality professional medical care to Armed Forces; and conducting research in various medical subjects as well as those aspects which would affect the morale and performance of the Armed Forces both in war and peace.

Academic Programs at AFMC Pune

Postgraduate Programs: AFMC Pune has been imparting postgraduate courses since its inception. These courses are recognised by the University of Pune and Medical Council of India (MCI). PG degree courses are of 3 year duration leading to the award MD and MS degree for medical/surgical specialties and MD (HA) for hospital administration. AFMC Pune offers postgraduate programs in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Preventive & Social Medicine, Opthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pediatrics, Radiodiagnosis, Anesthesiology, TB & Chest Diseases, Psychiatry, Dermatology & Venereology, Orthopedics and Hospital Administration.

Graduate Program: AFMC is offering MBBS programs since 1962. Admissions to MBBS course are made on the basis of an objective type written examination followed by an interview. All candidates admitted to AFMC, Pune have compulsory liability to serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services for seven years on graduation. To be eligible for admission in AFMC Pune, a candidate must have passed 12th with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects. The candidate must have secured not less than 60% marks in aggregate in the three science subjects taken together, not less than 50% marks in each of the science subjects and not less than 50% marks in English.. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics at least of the matriculation standard. Candidates' age must not be less than 17 years and below 22 years on December 31 of that particular year.
