Indian institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is an autonomous Society
under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. IIMC came into
existence on August 17, 1965. The institute conducts training programmes
for Group "A" and group "B" officers of Indian
Information Service. IIMC also offers Post-graduate diploma courses in
Journalism; Advertising and Public Relations and Radio & TV
Journalism. On August 14,1993 a branch of IIMC was opened at Dhenkanal,
Orissa. The branch conducts a PG Diploma course in Journalism, besides
short courses and workshops.
Indian institute of Mass Communication offers following academic
programmes:
1. Journalism (English) {New Delhi - 40 seats, Dhenkanal - 40 seats}
2. Journalism (Hindi) {New Delhi - 40 seats}
3. Advertising and Public Relations {New Delhi - 45 seats}
4. Radio and Television Journalism {New Delhi - 30 seats}
5. Journalism (Oriya) { Dhenkanal - 40 seats}
The duration of all the above courses is one year.
Eligibility
Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible. In addition a limited
number of seats are available for NRI sponsored. Candidates.
Educational Qualification
Candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Those who
have appeared/are appearing for the degree examination are also eligible
to apply. If selected, their admission will be subject to their
producing a provisional certificate in original from the
college/university before 31 August in the year applied for.
Postgraduate degree in any discipline and media related work experience
is desirable but not essential.
Admission Procedure
Admissions to the courses at IIMC are made on the basis of an entrance
examination held in third week of May in New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar /
Kolkata Patna/ Lucknow/ Mumbai/ Bangalore/ Guwahati. Candidates
shortlisted on the basis of written examination are called for a Group
Discussion/Interview in first week of July in New Delhi. Candidates of
Journalism (English) course can also be called for GD/Interview at
Kolkata.
