UPSC Engineering Services Examination, also referred to as UPSC IES Exam, is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in order to select potential candidates for recruitment at various engineering services in public sector. These engineering services are divided into four categories: - Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. In order to appear for IES exam, the candidates are required to follow certain eligibility criteria, laid down by the commission. Final selection of the candidates depends on their performance in the written exam, followed by personality test.
The exam is compulsory for all the aspirants, who are desirous to pursue career in engineering field under the aforesaid four categories. In order to ensure smooth conduct of UPSC Engineering Services Examination, the commission has allocated various test centers across the country. Once the choice of the center has been made by the candidates, it cannot be changed. UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2011 is supposed to be conducted for 745 vacant seats.
Every year UPSC Engineering Services Examination is held in the month of June or July. Notification regarding the same is issued in the month of January or February. For the year 2011, the notification has been issued on January 8, 2011. The last date of submitting the application form is February 7, 2011, while the three-day long UPSC Engineering Services Examination will commence from May, 14, 2011 (Saturday).
