The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the CDS Exam, also known as Combined Defence Services Examination, for recruiting well deserving and suitable candidates into various defence academies. These academies include the Naval Academy (NA), Indian Military Academy (IMA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers' Training Academy (OTA).  Candidates desirous to pursue their career in defence services of India will have to appear for the examination. UPSC CDS Exam is the very first step of a candidate towards a very honorable and reputed career of defence personnel. To appear for the test, aspirants will have to register themselves for it. Candidates can register themselves for the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS) in two different modes i.e. Online mode and Offline Mode. Both the modes of registration for UPSC CDS Exam are discussed below.
 
Online Mode
 
Candidates desirous to appear for the CDS Exam, also known as Combined Defence Services Examination, can register themselves online by visiting the commission's official website: http://www.upsconline.nic.in/. Candidates must take utmost care while filling the form online. Before start filling the online application form, candidates must read the instructions given on the aforementioned website.
 
Register in Person
 
Candidates who are unable to apply online or wish to apply only in person can also register for the test. Such candidates are required to obtain the Information Brochure along with the application form, an acknowledgement card and an envelope for sending the application from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices, located throughout the country, by paying Rs 20 in cash. Candidates are not allowed to purchase the application form from any other agency. Candidates are also required to fill the relevant places of the acknowledgement card. The aspirants will have to affix the postage stamp of Rs 6 on the acknowledgement card and send the same along with application form, to UPSC. The duly filled application form along with all the relevant enclosures should be submitted to the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069. Candidates must write the name of the examination, for which they are applying, on the envelope carrying the application form.
