National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal is a centrally funded government institute established to impart quality technical education at various levels of higher education. NIT Surathkal offers B-Tech, M-Tech and PhD Programmes in several fields of engineering.
It was established in the year 1960, as a joint venture between Government of India and Government of Karnataka as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (REC). In the year 2002, it was accorded the status of a Deemed University and was renamed as National Institute of Technology Surathkal.

Eligibility:
Undergraduate:One should have cleared Higher Secondary or 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 50% marks for admission in BE/BTech courses.
Post Graduate:Minimum academic qualification required is a pass in B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in the relevant discipline with not less than 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination is needed for admission in ME/MTech course.
MCA: The applicant is required to have scored minimum 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA) in the examinations of class 12th and Graduation with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Business Mathematics as one of the subjects. There is a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidates.
Doctorate:Students should have passed ME / MTech in relevant discipline with at least 60 percent marks in aggregate.
Admission Procedure:
Undergraduate:Admission for UG courses is done through AIEEE (A National level entrance for NITs and other engineering colleges in India) conducted by CBSE.
Entrance Test: AIEEE ExamPost Graduate:Applicants need to qualify in GATE entrance exam, conducted by IITs, followed by an interview / viva-voce for final selection. Non-GATE candidates can be considered for admission subject to the availability of seats. Non-GATE candidates are selected through college admission test (written/interview).
Applicants are selected through NIMCET (National Institute of Technology Common MCA Entrance Test), a common entrance test held by NIITs for admission to MCA.
