J S S Banashankari Arts, Commerce & S K Gubbi Science College, located in Dharwad, Karnataka, is popularly known as J S S or Janata Shikshana Samiti College after the name of the Trust. Established as an intermediate college in 1944 by the Karnataka Education Board, it was bifurcated into two separate colleges, the Banashankari Arts College and Shantikumar Gubbi Science College in 1966. Again these two colleges were merged in 1975 to form J S S College.
J S S Banashankari Arts, Commerce & S K Gubbi Science College is situated in a picturesque, spacious and well-maintained campus on the top of the Mailarlinga Hill, currently known as Vidyagiri. Accredited with ‘A' level certificate by the NAAC, the colleges is affiliated to Karnatak University and imparts PU, undergraduate and post graduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce disciplines. Besides, career oriented courses like BBA, BCA and diploma and advanced diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLTC) are also conducted here.

The candidates who have passed the matriculation examination of an Indian University or any other examination recognized by the Board as equivalent to the matriculation are eligible for any P U courses.
Undergraduate
A pass in two year Pre - University examination in Arts/Commerce/ Science or an equivalent examination approved by the Karnataka University is eligible for undergraduate courses like B A, B Sc, B Com, B B A and B C A.
Post Graduate:
A graduate in English or Computer Science is eligible for the M A (Eng) or M Sc (Comp Sc) courses respectively.

Admission for the PU, undergraduate and post graduate courses is done on the basis of merit except B B A. For B B A, the selection is made on the basis of merit along with the written test and interview.
