Indian School of Mines University (ISM) Dhanbad is one of the prestigious mining institutes of the world.
Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad was established in the year 1926. ISM Dhanbad is one of the premier engineering institutions of India. The origin of ISM Dhanbad can be traced to 1901 when the Indian Mines Act came into place. A need was felt to establish a government college of Mining Engineering at some suitable place in India on the pattern of the Royal School of Mines.
The Government of India in 1920 decided that the proposed institution should be an All India Institution financed by the Central Government and be named Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. In 1996-97, ISM Dhanbad was granted the status of Deemed University under the UGC Act in 1967. Indian School of Mines University Dhanbad is spread over a campus of 88 hectares and offers several courses at the UG as well as PG level in the engineering field
