Located in Balangir district of western Orissa, College of Teacher Education offers one-year duration comprehensive Bachelor of Education programme. Set up with an objective of fulfilling the dearth of trained secondary level teachers in the backward area schools of Orissa, the college was established in November 1968. Affiliated to Sambalpur University, the college attained the distinguished status of college of teacher education in 1988. With an intake of only 64 student during its inception, the intake capacity rose from 64-128 and then to 144 in 1978. The intake dropped to 80, following the NCTE rules, and again rose to 100 in 2005-06. Approved by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education), College of Teachers Education Balangir has modern facilities.
