Located in Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) is one of the oldest and prestigious engineering institutes in India, as it was established in 1949. It was formerly known as Bihar Institute of Technology, Sindri. Birsa Institute of Technology is governed and fully funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Jharkhand. It is affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag.
BIT Dhanbad is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The institute imparts courses in various streams of engineering and technology at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, according to the guidelines of AICTE. Birsa Institute of Technology is spread across 400 acres of land, which consists of modern facilities.
