Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), Manipal
was established in October 1986 as a unit of Dr. T M A Pai Foundation.
In 1987, the TMA Pai Foundation, tied up with Welcomgroup, the hotels
divisions of ITC Ltd. Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel
Administration was the first Indian Hotel Management Institute listed by
The Council of Hotel, Restaurant Institutional Education (CHRIE). In the
academic year 2003-2004, the institute was transferred to Manipal
University.
Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration offers 4-year
degree course in Hotel Management. Various subjects taught in the course
include: Hotel Accounting, Dynamics of Human Resource, Human Research
Development, Financial Management, Marketing Management, and Business
Law. The institute has a full fledged hotel attached to it for practical
training.
Students who have passed Class XII with 50% marks are eligible for
admission to Hotel Management course in the institute. Admissions are
made on the basis of a written exam which comprises of abstract
reasoning, numerical aptitude, verbal analogy, and general awareness.
The test is followed by a group discussion, and interview.
Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) has a
corpus fund to provide scholarships to students selected on merit cum
means basis.
