Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute Of Technology (SVNIT), Surat is
one of the premier engineering colleges of India. The college was
established in 1961 as joint venture of the Government of India and the
Government of Gujarat. The institute was formerly known as Sardar
Vallabhbhai Regional Engineering College Surat. In 2002, the institute
was accorded the status of Deemed University and was renamed as Sardar
Vallabhbhai National Institute Of Technology, Surat.
NIT Surat offers undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering, and
Chemical Engineering. SVNIT Surat has a sanctioned intake of 426. Fifty
per cent of the seats are filled up from the Gujarat State and the fifty
percent of the seats are reserved for the students from other States
with quota fixed for every State. Admissions for undergraduate courses
are done on the basis of AIEEE.
SVNIT Surat offers postgraduate courses in Structural Engineering, Soil
Mechanics & Foundation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Town &
Regional Planning, Water Recourses Engineering, and Mechanical
Engineering. Admissions to postgraduate courses are made on the basis of
performance in GATE. SVNIT Surat also offers Ph.D. programs in
Environmental Engineering, Town & Regional Planning, Water Recourses
Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.
