School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Delhi is one of the leading
architecture institutes in India. The institute came into existence in
1942 as a part of the Delhi Polytechnic at Kashmere Gate. Today, School
of Planning and Architecture is an autonomous institute and has been
accorded the status of Deemed University.
Academic Programs offered by School of Planning and Architecture
are:
Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch): This is a 5-year programme.
The degree awarded by SPA is recognised internationally thus providing
opportunity for advanced courses. The B. Arch course is approved by the
Indian Institute of Architects, the Council of Architecture and the
Commonwealth Association of Architects.
Bachelor of Planning: This is a 4-year programme and SPA was the
first institute n the country to offer a programme of this kind. The
students completing this programme are accepted as professional planners
with a status on par with engineers and architects with bachelor's
degrees. The Programme is approved by AICTE, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Government of India, and The Institute of Town Planners
(India).
Admissions to the above two programs are made on the basis of a 2-tier
entrance test. The first test measures the general aptitude of the
candidates and the shortlisted candidates appear in the second test,
which assesses the architectural aptitude of the candidates.
Masters in Planning: Candidates with B Arch / B Planning / B E
(Civil) or equivalent degrees are eligible for most of the planning
programmes. However, in some planning related programmes, persons
holding Master's degree in Geography / Economics / Sociology /
Statistics / Operations Research are also eligible. They should have
obtained a minimum of 55% in aggregate at the qualifying examination
(50% for SC/ST candidates).
