NIT Srinagar

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar was established in 1960. The institute was earlier known as Regional Engineering College (REC) Srinagar. REC Srinagar was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges established during the first Five Year Plan. The college was affiliated to the University of Kashmir. The central government has upgraded REC Srinagar to the category of National Institute of Technology and the institute has been accorded the status of Deemed University.

NIT Srinagar offers 4-year B. Tech degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. Selection for the B.Tech programs is done on the basis of the performance in All India Engineering Entrance Exams. NIT Srinagar also offers postgraduate program in Water Resource Engineering, and Doctoral research programs in Engineering Geology, Structural Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. Admissions for postgraduate programs are done on the basis of performance in GATE.
