National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur is the nineteenth NIT to
be established in India. The institute came into existence in 1956. At
that time it was known as Government College of Engineering and
Technology, Raipur. The Institute has been upgraded to the category of
National Institute Technology and has been accorded the status of Deemed
University.
NIT Raipur is spread over a campus of 100 acres. Presently, NIT Raipur
offers graduate level courses in twelve disciplines. These are:
Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Information
Technology, Computer Science & Engineering, Biotechnology, and
Biomedical Engineering. Candidates for undergraduate courses are
selected on the basis of performance in AIEEE.
NIT Raipur offers postgraduate courses in Applied Geology (M.Tech, 3
years), Computer Applications (MCA, 3 years), Computer Engineering
(M.Tech, 2 years), Water Resource Development and Irrigation Engineering
(M.E., 2 years), Energy System and Pollution (M.E., 2 years), Chemical
Process Design (M.E., 2 years), and Computer Engineering (M.Tech, 2
years). For M.E. and M.Tech courses admission is done on the basis of
performance in GATE. For MCA, admission is made through AIEEE.
