National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagpur is one of the premier
engineering institutes of India. The institute is named after the great
Engineer & Visionary of modern India M. Visvesvaraya. The institute
was formerly known as Visvesvaraya Regional Engineering College Nagpur
and was established in 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India
and Government of Maharashtra. In 2002, the institute was accorded the
status of Deemed University and was renamed as Visvesvaraya National
Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur.
Academic Programs offered by NIT Nagpur are:
Undergraduate Programs: Civil Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and
Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Architecture. There are total 480
seats in undergraduate programs. Admissions to all UG courses are done
on the basis of rank obtained in AIEEE. 50% seats of total intake
capacity are filled through AIEEE qualified candidates of Maharashtra
State and 50% seats of total intake capacity are filled through AIEEE
qualified candidates of other state quota all over India.
Postgraduate Programs: NIT Nagpur offers 2-year M.Tech Programs
in Civil Engineering (Environmental Engg, Water Resources Engg.),
Electrical Engineering (Integrated Power Systems), Electronics and
Computer Science (Electronic Embedded System), Applied Mechanics
(Structural Engg., Structural Dynamics & Earthquake Engg),
Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Engg, Heat Power Engg), Metallurgical
& Materials Engineering (Ferrous Process Metallurgy, and Materials
Engg.). There are total 175 seats in postgraduate programs. For
admissions in M.Tech programs, preference is given to GATE qualified
candidates. The Non-Gate candidates (including sponsored category) are
required to appear for entrance test conducted at various departments.
