Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) Kolkata is the
premier and the oldest Marine Engineering College in India. The
Institute was established at the onset of Independence in 1947 to
satisfy the growing need of marine engineers in India. Marine
Engineering & Research Institute Calcutta was earlier known as
Directorate of Marine Engineering Training with its headquarter in
Calcutta and a branch at Mumbai, under Ministry of Shipping (Government
of India). The Institute acquired its present name on February 2, 1994.
Marine Engineering & Research Institute offers B.Mar.E degree
through her affiliation to Jadavpur University, Calcutta. B.Mar.E is a
4-year residential program spread over 8 semesters. MERI Kolkata is an
ISO 9001:2000 Certified Institute, and has been assigned CRISIL GRADE -I
by CRISIL(The Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited).
Admissions to the program are done on the basis of IIT-JEE. (Indian
Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Examination). Candidate seeking
admission to the program must have passed 12 Class with science subjects
and he / she should be unmarried. Candidate should not be more than 20
years old on 1st October in the year of admission. He / She should meet
the physical fitness standards prescribed by the Institute.
