JNTU
The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was first
established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in the year 1956 by
the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The JNTU University's main branch is
located at Kukatpally, Hyderabad. When the college was under the purview
of the Department of Technical Education, it was affiliated to the
Osmania University, Hyderabad.
In 1972, when the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University formed, it
became a constituent college of the University and was named as JNTU
College of Engineering, Hyderabad. At first, the College was located in
a temporary building. Later, it was shifted to a 100 acre site at
Kukatpally which is about 20kms. away from the University headquarters
on Bombay Highway, in the year 1984.
While most of the Engineering Colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh,
which were privately owned were affiliated to their regional
Universities such as Osmania University in Hyderabad and Andhra
University in Vishakapatnam, most Engineering Colleges founded in the
state since the late 1990s have been affiliated to the JNTU.
Apart from providing engineering and technical education, the JNTU also
offers programmes at the Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral level in a
wide variety of fields, which also includes a business school that
offers a MBA Programme.
