JNTU

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was first established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in the year 1956 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The JNTU University's main branch is located at Kukatpally, Hyderabad. When the college was under the purview of the Department of Technical Education, it was affiliated to the Osmania University, Hyderabad.

In 1972, when the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University formed, it became a constituent college of the University and was named as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad. At first, the College was located in a temporary building. Later, it was shifted to a 100 acre site at Kukatpally which is about 20kms. away from the University headquarters on Bombay Highway, in the year 1984.

While most of the Engineering Colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which were privately owned were affiliated to their regional Universities such as Osmania University in Hyderabad and Andhra University in Vishakapatnam, most Engineering Colleges founded in the state since the late 1990s have been affiliated to the JNTU.

Apart from providing engineering and technical education, the JNTU also offers programmes at the Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral level in a wide variety of fields, which also includes a business school that offers a MBA Programme.

Undergraduate Courses
The College provides 4 year Degree Courses which leads to the B.Tech. Degree in the following fields.

Postgraduate Courses
The following Postgraduate Courses are offered by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
  • Civil Engineering: Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering: Machine Design
  • Electrical Engineering: Power Systems (High Voltage)
  • Electronics and Communications Engineering: Instrumentation and Controls
Eligibility

Undergraduate Courses: To be eligible for the Undergraduate Courses, a student must have passed the 10+2 level of examination or equivalent successfully with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as an optional.

Postgraduate Courses: To be eligible for the Postgraduate Courses, a student must have passed the Bachelor's Degree of examination successfully.

Admission

Undergraduate Courses: Each year, JNTU conducts entrance examinations, known as EAMCET for the students who wish to join any of the engineering courses in JNTU or other JNTU affiliated Colleges.

However, the minimum qualification to take this test is 10+2 level or equivalent examination. Apart from this, JNTU also conducts ECET tests. Students who want to take admissions to Direct Second Year of the Four year Engineering courses (B.Tech./B.E.) in JNTU affiliated Colleges.

Postgraduate Courses: For admission to the Postgraduate Courses of the JNTU, the student should have successfully completed their Bachelor's Degree in the engineering field.

The admissions to the Postgraduate Courses are on the basis of GATE examination. For non-sponsored students, admission is based through an entrance test conducted by the Universit. For admission to the MCA course, the student needs to take the MCACET, on which the admission is based.
