Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is one of the premier
engineering institutes of the country. IIT Guwahati was established in
1994 as the sixth member of the IIT fraternity. The institute commenced
its academic programs in 1995.
The establishment of IIT Guwahati has given the much-needed impetus to
technical education in the northeastern region of India. IIT Guwahati's
campus is spread over a sprawling 285 hectares on the north bank of the
river Brahmaputra. Within a short span of time the institutes has earned
a number of accolades, nationally and internationally.
Presently, IIT Guwahati has eleven departments covering all the major
engineering and science disciplines, offering B. Tech., B. Des, M.
Tech., Ph.D. and M.Sc. programmes.
B. Tech: IIT Guwahati offers 4 years programme leading to the
degree of Bachelor of Technology in: Biotechnology, Chemical
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering,
Electronics & Communication Engineering, Engineering Physics,
Mathematics & Computing, and Mechanical Engineering. Admissions are
done on the basis of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). IIT Guwahati has
provision of awarding Merit-cum-Means Scholarships to the under graduate
students who fulfill the criteria laid down by the institute.
B.Des.: The institute offers 4 years Bachelor of Design
Programme in Industrial Design and Communication Design.
Integrated MSc: IIT Guwahati offers 5 years programme leading to
the degree of Master of Science in Chemistry.
M.Tech: IIT Guwahati offers 2 years programme leading to the
degree of Master of Technology in: Chemical Engineering, Civil
Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics &
Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Admissions are
done on the basis of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
M.Sc.: IIT Guwahati offers 2 years programme leading to the
degree of Master of Science in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
Students are selected for admissions to MSc programmes through Joint
Admission to MSc in IITs (IIT-JAM) examination.
Ph.D Programmes: IIT Guwahati offers Doctorate Programs in
Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering,
Computer Science & Engineering, Design, Electronics &
Communication Engineering, Energy, Environment, Humanities & Social
Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, and
